Art dealers Messum’s have committed their future to London’s embattled Cork Street by acquiring a new gallery just down the road from their current premises.

A development which means seven Mayfair art galleries will have to find new premises has been approved by planners.

Some of the galleries affected by redevelopment in Cork Street, Mayfair, have been given hope that they can move back once the work is completed.

The company behind a development in Mayfair which means seven dealers will not have their leases renewed have promised to dedicate space for art galleries in the new scheme.

A peaceful demonstration in support of the Save Cork Street campaign will take place this Saturday, October 13 from 11am-12pm outside the offices of developers, Native Land, on Cork Street.

A second major property development unveiled for Cork Street in Mayfair now means that over half of the galleries there face being forced out.
