Lucie Rie

Lucie Rie (1902-1995) is one of the most famous exponents of British studio pottery with a world-wide reputation and prices to match in stature. She emigrated to Britain from Austria during the Second World War and set up a studio in London.

For a while Rie worked with fellow émigré and studio potter Hans Coper who started as her assistant.

Rie’s pottery has a streamlined modernist aesthetic and is distinguished by its virtuoso glazing techniques.
